McDonald’s Testing AI Drive-Thru Ordering System

McDonald’s is giving its drive-thrus a high-tech makeover with a new AI-powered system called ArchIQ, developed in partnership with Google after an earlier AI ordering experiment was scrapped. The company says the technology is already being tested in five restaurants and has processed more than a million transactions, with about 90% of orders completed without needing human assistance. The AI can take orders in both English and Spanish, while also helping managers spot potential bottlenecks and operational issues behind the scenes. The rollout is part of a broader modernization plan that also includes redesigned restaurants, updated ordering touchpoints, new PlayPlaces, and the possibility of new menu items down the road.
