Study: Voting May Help You Live Longer

If you voted yesterday, congratulations are in order…even if your candidates didn’t end up winning. In a first-of-its-kind study, researchers looked at the indirect effect voting has on a person’s lifespan. The study found that people who voted in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections had “roughly a 26% and 32% (respectively) lower risk of premature death by 2023.” While no one is saying that voting is some kind of “magic pill” to avoid death, there could be something said about the psychological benefits that can come with knowing you’ve done your civic duty.
