They say "it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." This is so true but so hard to remember when the "lost" part comes along. Soldiers are a different breed. They put their lives on the line every day and do so willingly. They know they might not come back from the battlefield. They know they might (or likely will) lose a friend to one horror or another.
