When thinking of identical triplets, you assume that everything about them is, in fact, identical.
Identical triplets occur when one single egg is fertilized by one single sperm and this fertilized zygote quickly and evenly divides into three separate zygotes. Boom, then there are three babies!
Inside Edition wanted to put the DNA to the test and see if identical triplets are truly as big of a match as we all believe.
First, they had to gather several sets of triplets, like Erica, Jaclyn, and Nicole Dahm. Erica’s husband, Jay McGraw, is an executive producer on The Doctors and the son of Dr. Phil. They also tested the Maynard triplets, who are well known for their American Idol audition.
On The Doctors, the results of the multiple DNA tests, using different ancestry DNA kits for different sets of siblings, proved that identical has a different meaning when it comes to DNA testing!
