A woman and her family were enjoying the warm water at Panama Beach. She said she heard her 2 sons screaming offshore that they were stuck. They were caught in a riptide. When she and rest of family swam out to help, they too got stuck in the current.
People on the beach then went in after the family while instructing others to connect with them in a chain. As many as 80 people went into the water to bring the family to safety.
