Front Royal-D.C. Bus Service to Open Next Week

A new bus service slated to begin Monday will offer morning rides from Front Royal to the Washington D.C. area and drop passengers back in town later that night.

The bus, which is a Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission project, will run Monday through Friday. Daily tickets are $25 and monthly tickets are $440.

The bus will pick up commuters at 4:45 a.m. at the Front Royal Park and Ride and at 5 a.m. at the Linden Park and Ride. Morning drop-off times and locations will be 6:15 a.m. at the Rosslyn Metro Station, 6:35 a.m. at the Metro Center Station, 6:50 a.m. at the L’Enfant Plaza and 7:05 a.m. at the Crystal City Station.

Evening pick up times will be 3:45 p.m. at the Rosslyn Metro Station, 4:10 at the Metro Center Station, 4:25 at the L’Enfant Plaza and 4:40 at the Crystal City Station. The bus will proceed to make a 6 p.m. drop off at the Linden Park and Ride and a 6:15 drop off at the Front Royal Park and Ride.

Taylor said amenities on the bus will include free wireless internet, phone charging stations, water and a restroom. In addition to freeing up commuters from having to navigate through traffic, Taylor encouraged citizens to use the service to help the environment and save on gas bills.

She added that it does not have to be used by people traveling to work; it would be a great service for someone who wanted to spend the day in D.C. for any reason.

The bus can hold 55 people, and Taylor said another bus could be added if the existing one reaches maximum capacity on a regular basis.

To ensure a spot on the bus, Taylor said tickets can be purchased in advance at ridesmartva.org.
