Canadian mom of seven Danielle Johnston was expecting triplets when she went into labor early at home, so her oldest son, 15-year-old Dillon, called an ambulance. They said it would be 45 minutes before it arrived, but Danielle’s labor pains didn’t stop and she delivered baby #1, a girl she named Karlee.
The pro mom realized her newborn daughter wasn’t breathing, so she gave her CPR - while still in labor with the other two babies! But Danielle says, “I just kept doing CPR on my baby and meanwhile, I have two more inside me and I’m fighting contractions.”
Eventually, the ambulance did arrive to her farm and took mama and baby to Regina General Hospital. She gave birth to her two sons, Jack and Liam, by C-section. And it happened to be after midnight, so the triplets actually have two different birthdays. All three babies are doing well and growing in the NICU.
So let’s hear it for this brave mom who kept her cool and took control during this emergency. It’s hard for us to imagine, saving one kid’s life while still trying to deliver the other two, but Danielle is modest about it. “I don’t think you have any choice,” she says. “You just do it.”
