Zoo Stunned As Female Snake Lays Eggs Without A Male Snake Around

Zoo Keepers at The St. Louis Zoo are working to figure out how their oldest snake laid eggs.

There's a mystery around the clutch’s origin because the 62-year-old ball python hasn't been around a male for at least 15 years. Officials are testing to see if the eggs were fertilized using "delayed fertilization" or asexually.

The zoo's manager of herpetology was surprised she gave birth given the snake's age saying she might be the oldest python known to laid eggs. Back in 2009, the snake...who doesn’t have a name... also laid a clutch of eggs, but they didn’t hatch. This time, two are being incubated.
