Shopper Orders Apples, Gets An Apple iPhone SE Instead

Nick James in Twickenham, England has been using a Tesco program called “click and collect” to do his shopping, but his order wasn’t accurate when he arrived to pick it up last week. When he grabbed his order, employees told him he had a “surprise” among his groceries.

A nice touch, but Nick wasn’t expecting anything this nice. While he said he figured it was “an Easter egg or something,” when he went through his order, he found that a new Apple iPhone SE had been substituted for the bag of apples he ordered.

Now that’s a substitute. It’s part of a program Tesco is running in the UK called “super substitutes,” where they’re replacing items like frozen cod for Apple Airpods, Tesco laundry tablets for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7, and freshly baked bread rolls for a Motorola E7. The promotion runs through this Sunday; no word on whether or not Nick ever got his bag of apples.
