Mother Heather Chacon tweeted Sunday that she had a sick son, and her mother had given her the same jar of Vicks VapoRub that she had used for her when she was little. “Expiration date 1-87” she added. Everyone jumped in with their own stories. One user tweeted a picture of their jar and of Vicks…” glass jar, painted metal lid, no expiration date anywhere, and ‘VAP O RUB 63’ molded into the bottom of it.
Everyone reported that their old VapoRub still worked, including the original poster, but Procter & Gamble, the makers of the iconic product, chimed in with their own comment, recommending that no one should use an expired product. The tweet has over 155k likes and 13k retweets, most agreeing that VapoRub seemingly stays good forever.
