The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest is now in its 50th year and is once again accepting entries. The contest will be held on June 23, 2023, at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in California. This contest is not about making fun of ugly dogs, but rather celebrating what makes these pooches unique and utterly lovable, as well as raising awareness about rescuing dogs, even with physical imperfections, from shelters and puppy mills.
"Dogs of all breeds and sizes have warmed our hearts and filled our lives with unconditional love. This world-renowned event celebrates the imperfections that make all dogs special and unique. [...] And while fun and entertaining, the contest speaks to the importance of advocating for the adoration of all animals and the benefits of adopting." (Source: Contest Website)
If you'd like to enter your dog, you'll need to submit an entry form with a short biography, photo, and proof of your pet's vaccination before June 21st.
The grand prize is $1,500 and a trophy. Second place wins $1,000, and third place wins $500. There will be a Spirit Award for “a dog and owner who have overcome obstacles and/or are providing service to the community based on the dog’s biography.” There will also be a People’s Choice Award winner, who will be chosen by an online vote.
