If you're planning to head to the Florida coast this year, beware! The largest seaweed bloom on record is heading to the Florida coast and is currently twice the width of the U.S. It's so huge that it can be seen from space!
The seaweed can have a severe environmental, economic, and health impact. The seaweed can pull oxygen from the water, endangering aquatic life. It releases toxic gases as it decomposes, resulting in a terrible smell and causing respiratory problems. In previous years, many have had to be hospitalized due to respiratory issues. The horrible rotting egg smell is predicted to have a negative impact on tourism, and the cost of clearing it from the beaches will be significant.
