The ball that drops from New York's Times Square every New Year's Eve is getting some sparkly new additions.
Just days before the countdown to 2022 begins, almost 200 new crystal facets from Irish company Waterford now contribute to a total of nearly three-thousand intricate sparkling triangles that cover the ball.
Each year, the spectacular 12-thousand-pound sphere is upgraded with new triangular crystals that represent a theme of the upcoming year. This year's design, "the Gift of Wisdom," is represented by a wheel with petals of knowledge that are "growing ever forward."
