This Year’s Olympic Medals Are Worth More Than Ever

Athletes competing at this month’s Winter Olympics in Italy will take home the most expensive medals in Games history as gold and silver prices have surged since 2024. Based on current metal values, gold medals are worth about $23-hundred and silver medals nearly $14-hundred, while bronze medals, made mostly of copper, are worth just a few dollars. More than 700 medals are being produced using recycled metals by Italy’s state mint, with gold medals containing only a small amount of actual gold and the rest made of silver. Even so, Olympic medals often sell for far more as collectibles, though most athletes choose to keep them as personal keepsakes rather than cashing in.
