When it comes to chores around the house, there are some we can avoid for months or even years … seriously, when was the last time you cleaned your oven? But then there are the ones that seem like never-ending tasks, like dishes and laundry. Just when we finish folding and putting away one load, the hamper is full and we have to start all over again.
That’s just one of the reasons laundry is one of the least favorite chores, a new survey suggests. But have you ever wondered how much time you spend on it? According to the poll of 600, 49% say they spend more than three hours a week doing the washing, drying, folding, putting away and managing the laundry.
- But it’s not just time-consuming, more than half (54%) consider laundry to be one of their top stressors or annoyances.
- Another 44% say laundry - or even just the thought of having to do it - makes them anxious or unhappy.
- If they could pick one chore to never have to do again, 21% choose laundry. Only cleaning the toilet or mowing the yard rated higher.
- Between the cost of detergent, electricity and gas bills, and lost time, respondents estimate they spend $10 to $20 a month doing laundry at home.
- Despite how much people dislike having to do load after load, they wouldn’t spend too much for someone else to handle it.
- More than half (54%) would only be willing to pay $10 a week to never have to do laundry again, 29% would spend $25, and 11% would go as high as $50.
- If they got back the time they spend doing laundry, 19% would use it for entertainment, another 19% would spend it with family, and 16% would use it to rest or sleep.
