Feel like you’re just not getting paid enough for the work you do? It’s a common issue, as a new international study finds that one in five workers feel severely underpaid and that they’re long overdue for a big pay increase.
According to the study, which involves a survey of 4-thousand employed adults from the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Singapore and Australia, 18% aren’t satisfied with their pay and feel they’d need a 32% raise to feel like they’re getting paid enough.
- Compensation is the top priority for the global workers polled, but many are also concerned about pay transparency practices.
- While 81% of respondents say pay transparency is important to them, just a third believe their workplace practices pay transparency, either informally or with a formal policy.
- The 18% whose current employer has that policy say it’s so important, and if it wasn’t honored they’d leave the company.
- If they were searching for a new job and the prospective employer didn’t offer pay transparency, 37% would ask for it to be included in their contract, 17% would ask for more pay, and 11% would warn others who are also considering the position.
- Nearly two-thirds (62%) are aware of how much pay their coworkers get in their country.
- Among U.S. workers, 68% believe the federal government should mandate pay transparency nationwide.
