Brides Are Ditching Bachelorette Parties For Solo Trips

Traditional bachelorette parties are a celebration with friends before the wedding, but they’ve turned into much more elaborate events. These days, bachelorette parties are often multi-day trips involving plane tickets, matching outfits and a lot of drinking, the cost of which can add up quickly. While a lot of brides-to-be love these extravagant parties they get to be the star of, some are opting for getaways by themselves instead.

This solo trip trend - or “solorette” - has become more popular with brides who find those over-the-top bachelorette party trips to be stressful and overwhelming and would rather unwind and recharge before their big day. “Going solo allows for the bride to have uninterrupted time to focus on herself, which can be incredibly restorative,” explains therapist Brooke Spowl.

While going away with gal pals before saying “I do” can deepen a connection and make the bride feel supported, taking a trip alone can give her time for solitude and self-reflection, which is what some women need. A “solorette” is also a lot easier to organize than planning a weekend with all the desires, demands and expectations of a group of the bride’s loved ones, plus she can do exactly what she wants without compromising. While some bridesmaids might miss the adventure of a bachelorette party in Vegas, they’ll probably appreciate that it’s easier on their budget.
